Avandia Side Effects
Studies have shown that many side effects of Avandia include the very health problems Avandia is used to treat or prevent, such as:
- Heart attack
- Heart failure
- Edema (swelling or excess fluid)
- Heart disease
According to a study released by the New England Journal of Medicine on May 21, 2007, diabetic patients taking Avandia oral medication were 43 percent more likely to have a heart attack than diabetics not taking the medication. While Avandia has been on the market since 1999, GlaxoSmithKline (manufacturer of Avandia) did not alert the public of such dangerous side effects until 2005. The product remains on the market today, but is still under strict scrutiny by the FDA.
