  • Leg swelling, including swelling of the ankle and foot
  • Leg pain
  • Redness

A doctor can determine whether you have a blood clot by conducting a physical exam of the areas experiencing swelling, pain, and redness. An ultrasound can verify the blood flow through your veins and verify the type and location of blood clots.

Symptoms of a Pulmonary Embolism include:

  • Shortness of breath
  • Chest pain
  • Coughing up blood
  • Wheezing
  • Leg Swelling
  • Clammy or bluish-colored skin
  • Excessive sweating
  • Rapid or irregular heartbeat
  • Weak pulse
  • Lightheadedness or fainting

Pulmonary embolism can be detected by a chest x-ray, a lung scan, a CT scan, a pulmonary angiogram, or other tests for blood clots. It is often fatal.
