Bayer / Yasmin Lawsuit

Why are we bringing lawsuits against the makers of Yaz?

Women throughout the country have suffered life-threatening problems from the use of the birth control pills Yaz, Yasmin, and Ocella. These birth control pills are oral contraceptives and are a synthetic spironolactone analogue known in the medical world as drospirenone. Yaz is the same drug as Yasmin but is manufactured and marketed by Bayer. It is the best selling birth control pill in the United States. Ocella is the generic version of Yasmin.

yaz1Yaz was first approved by the FDA in 2006 and Yasmin was first approved by the FDA in 2001. Both of these drugs are oral contraceptives which were marketed by Bayer and/or Berlex as not only a birth control pill but also to treat moderate acne in women and to treat premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMS).

Yaz is typically sold in a turquoise and green rectangular shaped box with the word "Yaz" written on the front in red-orange font. The pills come in a rectangular shaped sheet with four rows and seven columns. Most of the pills are pink, however four of the pills are white. Yasmin is typically sold in a purple rectangular box containing a rectangular shaped sheet with four rows and seven columns of pills. Yasmin birth control pills are usually pink and white. Ocella birth control pills are typically packaged on a rectangular sheet containing four rows and seven columns, sold in a pink and green rectangular box with the word "Ocella," written in cursive on the outside of the box. If this packaging sounds familiar, you or a loved one may have taken Yaz, Yasmin, or Ocella.

The FDA has received over 50 reports of Yaz related deaths. The FDA warned Bayer in October, 2008 that its television advertisements were misleading and that both Yasmin and Yaz have additional risks over other birth control pills due to its chemical evidence. They also noted that the claims that Yaz treats acne and relieves PMS were not supported by scientific evidence.

We believe that we will be able to establish that Bayer did not tell the whole truth about these drugs, concealed defects and side effects, failed to properly test these pills for side effects and did not fully disclose these side effects to women or their doctors. We also believe the evidence will establish that these actions were consciously taken by these companies to maximize profits from these best-selling drugs at the expense of the safety of women.

If you have been injured while using these birth control pills, you may be able to file a Yaz lawsuit. We are currently representing women throughout the United States with our team of birth control litigation attorneys with extensive experience in defective drug litigation and particular experience in representing women who have had side effects from drugs.
