San Francisco Law Firm Investigating Northern California Wildfires

Going Forward From the Santa Rosa, Calistoga, Napa, Sonoma, and Mendocino Fires.

The terrible fires in Santa Rosa, Sonoma County, Napa County, and Mendocino County have been devastating to the residents and communities as a whole. Thankfully, the imminent threat of these fires has receded but people are now confronting the enormous realization of their losses. Many are asking what caused the devastation from the Tubbs Fire, Pocket Fire, Nuns Fire, Atlas Peak Fire, Redwood Valley Fire, and other fires throughout Napa, Sonoma, and Mendocino counties.

People are also asking what should have been done to protect the thousands of affected people, homes, and businesses.   This investigative focus has shifted to PG&E because the utility company may have failed to adequately trim foliage near power equipment, secure lines, or take necessary steps to prevent the fires and their devastating spread.
The Brandi Law Firm is currently investigating PG&E for their possible involvement in the Wine Country and Mendocino Fires. The California Public Utility Commission has detailed regulations that apply to PG&E which outline requirements for all lines, clearances, minimum safety factors, etc. Please see PUC General Order 95 . We are investigating if PG&E failed to meet these or other safety requirements.

This has happened before.

In 2015 PG&E was found responsible for the Butte Fire (Amador and Calaveras Counties) due to failing to properly maintain vegetation around a power line that was knocked over by a pine tree.  The Butte Fire burned over 70,000 acres and 800 structures, and PG&E has been held liable by Sacramento Superior Court Judge Allen Sumner for all damage caused by the fire.

In 2010, a San Bruno neighborhood exploded when an underground with a wall of fire over 1000 feet high from a ruptured underground gas pipe that did not satisfy the regulatory standards at the time.  PGE was found guilty  of 11 charges of violating pipeline safety regulations and also obstructing the National Transportation Safety Board’s investigation into the fire and its cause.

The Brandi Law Firm has represented a number of individuals and families against PG&E in the past, ranging from those affected by the San Bruno fire to actions involving inspections of their systems leading to serious injury and wrongful death.
