Laboratory Corporation of America (LabCorp) and Your Health Insurer
Ever wonder what happens during the billing process when you go to the Doctor and the doctor sends you out for lab work?
Did you know that in some instances, the lab company may change the diagnosis code they place on your records when they seek payment from your health insurance carrier resulting in a higher charge to you.
The Brandi Law Firm is currently representing a consumer in a proposed class action against Laboratory Corporation of America (LabCorp) pending in the San Francisco Superior Court. (No. CGC-12-518072) The complaint alleges that LabCorp has a policy of changing diagnosis codes when submitting reimbursement claims to insurance companies. While preventative screening laboratory work is generally free of charge under many health care plans, LabCorp’s actions of changing the codes results in consumers being responsible for co-payments and charges which are then pursued by LabCorp. I am so mad at LabCorp……we have had an issue with them for a few months now and I have tried to get this resolved but they are unwilling to help one bit. We received a bill for 468.80 and I called them about this and asked for HELP with it. Knowing that if insurance would pay they would have to accept a lot less, we were self pay at the time. They would not discount our bill one cent, they agreed allow us to make monthly payments! I begged them for help but they are unwilling to help any.
Yes, I do know that codes get changed and that is so unfair, only so they can rip off the insurance.
Things need to change for sure, this is one ofthe things that is wrong with our health care system.
