Nissan to Recall 151,695 SUVs due to Brake Defect that Lengthens Stopping Distance

| Oct 29, 2013 | Automobile Defects

Nissan will recall 151,695 sport utility vehicles due to a brake issue.  The vehicles involved in this recall are the 2013-14 Nissan Pathfinder, the 2013 Infiniti JX35 and the 2014 Infiniti QX60.  The Nissan Pathfinders were manufactured from April 18, 2012, through September 20, 2013.  There are approximately over 100,000 Pathfinders affected.  The 2013 Infiniti JX35 vehicles affected were manufactured between September 15, 2011, and January 16, 2013; and the model year 2014 Infiniti QX60 vehicles manufactured January 17, 2013, through September 20, 2013.

According to the defect notice, the reason for the recall is that there is a problem with the Antilock Brake System (ABS) when using these vehicles on rough or uneven roadways.  When the ABS is activated when traveling on these roads, even with the lightest braking, the ABS brake pressure output software setting does not function correctly.  The ABS causes drivers to experience stopping distances that are longer compared to the given pedal force.  This defect increases the likelihood of a crash.

Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the ABS, free of charge.  The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule.  Owners may contact Nissan at 800-647-7261.

This is the third recall this year for the 2013 Nissan Pathfinder.  In April 2013, Nissan issued recalls for the Pathfinder because of air bag and brake issues.

Americans rely on their car manufacturers to provide a safe well-designed vehicle.  Sadly, that is not often the case.  The Auto Defect Attorneys at the Brandi Law Firm has successfully represented many people injured from defective Toyotas, Fords, Chrysler, Nissan, GM products and numerous other manufacturers and suppliers.  Often times, people involved in accidents do not examine the issues of defective vehicle design nor whether the car was truly crashworthy – does it contain the appropriate crash protection.  If you or a loved one has been injured in an auto crash, our attorneys at the Brandi Law Firm are available to consult with you.  Please contact our office at 800-481-1615 or email us.
