Volkswagen Announces Global Recall of 2.6 Million Vehicles due to Gear Box, Fuse, and Fuel Line Defects

| Nov 22, 2013 | Automobile Defects

Volkswagen will recall 2.6 million vehicles worldwide due to gearbox, fuse, and fuel line defects.  First, 62,000 2009-2011 Volkswagen Tiguans will be recalled in the United States.  The vehicles are being recalled because the vehicles can lose their exterior lighting.  The exterior lighting is lost when one of the fuse sockets overheats.  The investigation reports that when the exterior lighting malfunctions, drivers have found an overheated and melted fuse in the under-hood fuse box.

Additionally, other Tiguans in the U.S. may be recalled to fix faulty fuse line problems.  This problem seems to be analogous to the problem that Ford has had over the last year.

Finally, Volkswagen will recall 3,900 Jetta hybrids from the 2013-14 model years equipped with direct-shift automatic transmissions.  These vehicles are designated as DQ200.  This recall is due to the type of fluid that was used in the gearbox for these vehicles.  Because synthetic fluid was used in the gearbox, this can cause electrical problems.  These electrical problems can cause corrosion to the frame of the gearbox.  This defect will cause the vehicle’s front wheel to lose power.
