Ford is recalling 2,456 2012-2014 Focus Electric vehicles due to a defect in the Powertrain Control Module software. Due to the software problem, the vehicle can stall out and lose power while driving. The sudden loss of motive power while driving can increase the likelihood of a crash. These vehicles were manufactured between September 15, 2011 and August 23, 2013.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the power control module, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin by late November 2013. Ford’s recall campaign number is 13S09. Owners may contact Ford Motor Company Customer Relationship Center at 866-436-7332.
This is second electronic car investigation that has been scrutinized by the National Highway Traffic Safety Association. Ford now joins Tesla in recalling one of their electric cars after finding out that there is a defect in their vehicle, affecting the passengers’ safety.
