GM to Recall 303,000 New Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra Vehicles due to Fire Risk

| Jan 13, 2014 | Automobile Defects

Despite being named the North American Truck of the Year today in Detroit, the redesigned and new 2014 Chevrolet Silverado will be recalled due to parts of the pickup’s exhaust system could overheat due to a software defect.  Due to the software malfunction, the overheating of the exhaust system could cause a fire.  General Motors will recall 303,000 Silverado and the 2014 GMC Sierra full-sized trucks due to this defect.  Globally, 370,000 will be recalled.  The recall covers trucks with 4.3-liter and 5.3-liter engines; trucks that have 6.2-liter engines are not being recalled at this time.

This is not the first vehicle to have problems with engine fire problems.  NHTSA began a federal safety investigation in November 2013 into the Tesla Model S after three fires occurred involving the vehicles.

Americans rely on their car manufacturers to provide a safe well-designed vehicle.  Sadly, that is not often the case.  The Auto Defect Attorneys at The Brandi Law Firm has successfully represented many people injured from defective Toyotas, Fords, Chryslers, Volkswagens, GM products and numerous other manufacturers and suppliers.  Often times, people involved in accidents do not examine the issues of defective vehicle design nor whether the car was truly crashworthy – does it contain the appropriate crash protection.  If you or a loved one has been injured in an auto crash, our attorneys at The Brandi Law Firm are available to consult with you.  Please contact our office at 800-481-1615 or email us.
