Toyota, Honda, Nissan, and Mazda Recall Over 3 Million Vehicles

| Apr 12, 2013 | Automobile Defects

On April 11, 2013, four major Japanese car makers recalled over 3 million vehicles worldwide due to problems with air bags on the passenger side.  Japanese manufacturer, Takata Corporation, manufactured these air bags for Toyota, Honda and Nissan. The improperly manufactured and installed malfunctioning air bags inflators could cause the airbag to deploy abnormally during a crash.

The vehicles involved in this recall include:

Toyota: Certain Corolla, Corolla Matrix, Sequoia and Tundra and Lexus SC 430 in the 2001 to 2003 model years.

Honda: Certain Civics, CR-Vs and Odysseys from 2001 to 2003.

Nissan: Certain Maxima, Pathfinder, Sentra, Infiniti I35 and QX4 from 2001 to 2003.

Mazda. Some Mazda6 sedans from 2003 and 2004 and the 2004 RX-8. Only 149 vehicles are involved.

GM. The 2003 Pontiac Vibe, which was made alongside Toyota’s Corolla, will be included.

Globally, Toyota will recall 1.73 million vehicles that were manufactured between November 2000 and March 2004.  Honda is recalling 1.1 million vehicles.

For Honda owners of all vehicles on which a defective air bag may have been installed either as original equipment, or as a replacement, will be notified.  The safety recall will begin on May 11, 2013.  Owners may contact Honda automobile customer service at 800-999-1009.  Honda’s recall campaign number is S95.

Nissan and Mazda will recall over 480,000 vehicles with this problem.  Nissan states it will replace faulty air bags in Maxima, X-Trail and other models.

For Mazda owners, the safety recall will begin in May 2013.  Owners may contact Mazda Customer Assistance Center at 800-222-5500, option #6.  Mazda’s recall campaign number is 6913D.
