The largest recall affects 1,176,407 GM products and 4 different types of models.  The affected vehicles in the first recall are the 2008-2013 Buick Enclaves, the 2009-2013 the Chevrolet Traverse, the 2008-2013 GMC Acadia, and the 2008-2010 Saturn Outlooks.  In these affected vehicles, there is a defect in the driver and passenger seat mounted side impact air bag wiring harness.  The wiring harness can have increased resistance, which may result in the failure in the side air bag and the seat belt pretensioners.

GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the affected harness connections with soldered connections, free of charge.  The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule.  Buick owners may contact the owner center at 800-521-7300, Chevrolet owners at 866-694-6546, Saturn at 800-553-6000, and GMC owners at 866-996-9463.  GM’s number for this recall is 14030.  Note: Vehicles repaired as part of Customer Satisfaction Campaign 10085 and special coverage 10335 have already had the subject condition repaired and therefore are not included in the safety recall.

The second recall affects 303,013 Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana cars.  These cars are from the model years 2009-2014 and were manufactured from January 27, 2009 through March 7, 2014.  The vehicles affected have a gross vehicle weight rating of 10,000 pounds and less and are equipped with front passenger air bags.  The defect stems from the air bag failing to meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 201, “Occupant Protection in Interior Impact.”  During a frontal impact below the air bag deployment threshold, if an unbelted front passenger’s head hits the instrument panel above where the passenger air bag is located, the panel may not sufficiently absorb the impact.

GM will notify owners. The manufacturer has not yet provided a remedy plan or notification schedule. Chevrolet owners may call 800-630-2438. GMC owners may call 866-996-9463. GM’s number for this recall is 14082.

The final recall involves 2013-2014 Cadillac XTS vehicles manufactured February 14, 2012, through March 7, 2014.  The defect is from a cavity plug on the brake booster pump.  This plug could dislodge allowing corrosion and a shortage to occur to the pump.  If this occurs, there is an increased risk of fire.

GM will notify owners, and dealers will apply sealant to the connector cavity plugs, re-route the vacuum pump vent hose and replace the front body wiring harnesses as needed, free of charge.  The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule.  Owners may contact Cadillac at 866-982-2339.  GM’s number for this recall is 14062.
