For the second time, Ford will recall 27, 933 Ford Edge vehicles due to a fuel line defect. These Edge models were manufactured from September 2, 2010, through April 25, 2013, and the models affected are from 2012-2013. The vehicles being recalled are equipped with 2.0L engines. The first time these vehicles were recalled was in September 2012. In the first recall, Ford recalled 2012 model Edge vehicles manufactured from September 2, 2010, through October 31, 2011, for the same issue that is the subject of today’s recall. Vehicles that were remedied in the previous recall will have to have the current remedy applied.
The defect is that the fuel line pulse damper metal housing may crack. The fuel line may crack, because of a manufacturing defect. Cracks in the fuel line could lead to a fuel leak in the car. This defect increases the risk of a car fire occurring.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the fuel line with one that does not have a damper, free of charge. The safety recall is scheduled to begin on February 28, 2014. Owners may contact Ford at 866-436-7332. Ford’s number for this recall is 13S13. IMPORTANT: This recall supersedes recall 12V-438. All vehicles that have been remedied under the previous recall need to have the current remedy applied.

Ford is quite familiar with fuel line and leak problems. In December, for the seventh time since its redesign in the spring of 2012, Ford recalled 149,386 Escape SUVs in two separate actions due to fuel and oil line defects. The Ford Edge recall now makes it the fifth fuel line recall for Ford since July 2012.

Often times, people involved in accidents do not examine the issues of defective vehicle design nor whether the car was truly crashworthy – does it contain the appropriate crash protection.
